The privately owned company based on Stoke-On-Trent in the North of England, increased its revenues to an incredible £501 million, which equates to a 22% year-on-year increase. These revenues are almost as large as the huge online grocery store Ocado.

Bet365 revealed that the popularity of its new offering in in-play wagering saw the a whopping increase of 58% in bets over with the previous year. However, investment in innovations related to in-play wagering together with a new marketing campaign saw flat profits from online betting and gaming totalling £93.7 million off a turnover of £439 million.

Despite absorbing £7.4 million in losses from the football club Stoke City, in which bet365 has majority stakes, the company still managed a massive £91 million in profits before taxes. bet365 is owned by the Coates family, established by Denise Coates in the year 2000 as a land-based estate before going online a year later. Her father, 73-year-old bookmaker and entrepreneur Peter Coates is the Chairman for Stoke City soccer club.

The success of bet365 makes Denise Coates one of the most successful self-made businesswomen. She has recently been awarded in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list by being appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

bet365 is the last major online bookmaker that remains in the UK’s mainland, with operations also in Gibraltar, where it takes casino, bingo and poker wagers. The company is one of the world’s leading online gambling groups with over 6 million customers and 1,700 employees.
