In the 1980’s, Binion's Gambling Hall in Las Vegas advertised that they would book any bet no matter how big, as long as it was one’s first bet. William Lee Bergstrom arrived at Binion's Gambling Hall with a suitcase full of money, $777,000 to be exact, to challenge the claim. The brave or foolish man bet the entire amount on the Craps table of Don’t Pass the Line. He threw the dice and Lady Luck’s granted him with the winning dice. Needless to say he was overjoyed and went home in super excited and happy.

He wasn’t happy for long though. As expected, he got hooked on winning and soon after, he returned back to the casino. Surprisingly enough he won another $590,000. He couldn’t stop there and eventually he returned again and won $190,000. He was sure that Lady Luck was with him, and so he returned another time and won $90,000.

Finally, he showed up at Binion's Gambling Hall and bet $1,000,000. It seems that the gambling fever took him over and no amount of money was ever going to be enough. If Bergstorm did not gamble this money he would have had more than enough to life comfortably for a whole lifetime. This time he lost the bet, but it was not a big tragedy since he was still ahead with $647,000.

Three months later, he upped the ante yet again. This time the stakes were deadly as he played Russian Roulette and wagered his own life. This time the unpredictable Lady Luck lost interest in Bergstorm and he lost. He played with his six-shooter and drew the short bullet. Perhaps he'd have been luckier at the craps table.
