Ontario seems to be the latest Canadian province ready to enter the online gaming market. According to the Toronto Sun newspaper, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation issued a Request for Proposals to develop online casino games and sell lottery tickets online.
The gaming authority had announced its plans for penetrating the online gaming market way back in August 2010, hoping to have the online facilities active by early 2012.
Around $400 million are estimated to be wagered annually by the people of Ontario using offshore gaming sites. However, a regulated Ontarian online gaming market is expected to be worth approximately $450 million, bringing an estimated $100 million in tax revenues for the Canadian government.
The new online casinos planned would be open to players over the age of 19 while lottery tickets can be bought online by anyone aged 18 and over.
