The Danish government has announced the details of the first set of companies expected to launch their operations in the Danish market, that is to be soon regulated in January 2012.
Indeed, 38 operators have been awarded licences, amongst which are well-known operators such as: 888 Denmark, Betfair, Betsson, Cryptologic, Entraction and PKR. Nine of these companies come from Denmark, twenty from Malta, four from the UK, four from Gibraltar and one from the Isle of Man.
Thor Möger Pedersen, Danish minister of taxation, said that 'From January the gambling market will be orderly and we will ensure that holders of a betting and online casino licence to operate on the Danish market also contribute to the society. Danes as well as the many associations supported by the gambling market can be joyful”.
On the other hand, Annelie Berg, from Dan Gaming, (the Danish Gaming Association) added, 'Denmark is now the prime example for all countries in Europe when it comes processing new legislation'.
Denmark is the latest European country to introduce new laws regarding online gambling, following the example of Germany, France and Spain.
