bwin.party digital entertainmnet plc is the world’s largest publicly traded online gambling firm, best known for its online poker room PartyPoker.com.

Last November, bwin.party’s SEO Manager Josef Rantamäki tweeted, “Wow! www.pokerroom.com will be relaunched and once again offer real money poker games.” Later on a spokesperson for the company announced, “We were using the Pokerroom.com name as an affiliate and it had started to pull in traffic so we then decided to switch it back on – it literally was a case of simply flicking the switch. It’s essentially a soft-launch at the moment and we will see what happens from there on in. We’re testing the waters to see what level of interest there is.”

PokerRoom.com was founded in 1999; licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and operating as an online poker room. It was one the first online poker sites to provide multi-language support, catering for Danish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, and Swedish speakers.

After a decade of operations, the closure of PokerRoom.com was announced by bwin in 2009, exactly on the 14th of April as the business was negatively effected by the passing of the UIGEA in the United States in 2006. The Ongame network pulled out of the US market, which meant that brands like PokerRoom.com had to step aside allowing PokerStars, Full tilt and Ultimate Bet to flourish in the United States.

Bwin.party digital entertanment plc is the result of a merger of bwin and PartyGaming in March 2011. The company has leading positions in the market for sports betting, poker, casino and bingo; owning leading brands such as bwin,PartyPoker.com, PartyCasino.com and Foxy Bingo.
